Sport – Running
“Out on a whim, I ran the John Dick Memorial 50K on Saturday out in Kettle Moraine Forest, yes when it was snowing 10 degrees outside. I finished, ran the entire thing – just walked the uphills, and didn’t hit a wall or cramp up. I know that I have only been on the plan for about a week and half or so, but I felt so strong running on Saturday. And to have run an ultra 2 weeks before, with no winter running, I didn’t know if I’d be able to do it, but I did! I got to say, it has to be the nutrition! ”
“Hey, just wanted to say thank you. Had my coach tell me I have one of the hardest work ethics and that I’m one of the best athletes he’s ever had. Regardless if I play a second or not, hearing this from team USA coach is a great feeling and it all comes back to NX Level. After seeing JJ Watt last night and hearing his interview was just another example showing how special NX Level is and its staff. I just wanted to say thank you for everything Brad. I wouldn’t be here without you. ”

To all that are considering doing the cleanse with Shannon or have just completed the 21 days…… YOU DID IT! You are now ready to start the rest of your life with increased energy and knowledge to live and be healthy. The cleanse was only the start for me this past May when I received some not so favorable cholesterol results. In addition, to that I felt tired every day and just didn’t know why until now. I now workout knowing that what I’m doing is accomplishing goals each time I come to NX Level to train. I can tell you….don’t stop as you will only continue to feel better long term. Happy Cleanse or Post-Cleanse!!

“Lost over 20 pounds in 2 months (10 pounds during 21 day cleanse) and over 10% body fat and still going strong!”
Christopher Brunson – Master Swimmer
I have been training at NX Level for the past few months and in all my years of competitive athletics (Division 1 scholarship athlete) and working with personal trainers I have never had such a positive experience with a strength and conditioning program. The sport specific and just overall knowledge of how the human body works has truly impressed me. Physically I feel like I am as strong if not stronger than I have ever been. I have struggled with some pretty debilitating back issues over the years and while a lot of people cautioned me about lifting weights it has always been part of how I keep the issues at bay and in fact has been doctor recommended. Training with NX Level has improved my results … recently I had a flare up that would have taken months for me to recover from in the past, but this time it only took a week! Big change and a huge deal. Personally, I think it is a great place to come and train … I have never had a workout with a trainer that I didn’t enjoy. Professionally, it has been a great way to blow off steam and several of my collegues have commented on my weight loss. Being back in the water competing, I have found my gains to be tremendous and I know I will post even faster times at my upcoming meets as a result of my training at NX Level.
Laren Tiltmann – Master Swimmer
I am a 41 year old master adult swimmer who has been competing locally and nationally (United States Masters Swimming) since 2004.
A bit of history: I ended my collegiate career in 1994, swimming Division I at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and was an NCAA All-American in 1993. I swam for my native South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in 1994 in Victoria, Canada. Then I hung up my suit for about 10 years doing nothing but steadily gaining weight (up to 250lbs). In 2000 and to my horror, I was diagnosed with hypertension and placed on medication. For the next 4 years my health deteriorated and I became more and more uncomfortable physically and emotionally. I knew something had to change and in 2004 I joined my local masters swimming team (Elmbrook Masters Swim Club in Brookfield, WI). For the next 7 swim seasons I entered a yoyo routine fluctuating between 205-240lbs (with my ideal weight being around 188lbs) as I got in shape for masters nationals each spring.
In the fall of 2010 I met my current next level training partner and good friend Chris Brunson and we immediately identified amongst other things that we both had a problem with getting and staying in shape and physically being ready to race to our potential. Chris and I met one day to discuss how we were going to make positive changes in our lives and finally get back into racing shape. Chris had known about NX Level and had had some contact with Brad (Arnett) during his (Chris’s) days swimming at the University of Minnesota. We both agreed that this was going to be our next level and hoped that NX Level would give us the missing piece we both knew we needed.
So on May 24, 2011 (19 weeks ago) and weighing in at 220lbs (my “in-shape” weight I had settled on for the past few seasons) our journey with NX Level began. My goals upon joining were threefold:
1. to reach my goal weight of 190lbs (A goal weight I could not reach since I set it in 2004)
2. to get my health back and get off blood pressure medication, something I had never been able to do with swimming training alone
3. to aspire to some lofty swimming goals which would see me reentering USA national age-group swimming level competition with the young kids and current 20-somethings in addition to my USA masters swimming competitions.
After 4 weeks and clothes drenching workouts with Nic Hansen, Matt Gifford, Troy Dequaine, Lance Barilow and Jake Bodi I had only lost 4 lbs. I knew I was getting stronger but one piece of the puzzle, the nutrition side was missing. I locked into a new diet plan and immediately the weight started falling off. Clearly the program with NX level had laid the foundation and the weight loss became a pretty simple exercise.
NX Level: What a revelation the program has been for me. The progression of strength and conditioning is clearly mapped out and with the aid of trainers who clearly care about your progress, the program is a must for any adult who wants to improve their training regime or simply getting to an age where the aches and pains of age start setting in. We lose muscle as we age and going hand in hand with that is a declining rate of metabolism. For most of us, our diets don’t change and our poor habits with food choices become mountains of excess weight gain which can be nearly impossible to overcome. I’m not sure if the trainers realize the impact they are making in their clients lives and there is not much more I can do to show them my appreciation other than to work hard and mention their names when people ask what I have been doing. I cannot thank them enough for their continued professionalism and expertise, literally turning the clock back 20 years on my journey so far.
Current progress: I knew I was going “all in” when I joined NX level. I signed up for the largest package they offered because this time there was going to be no hiding, no excuses for not reaching my goals.
On August 24, 2011, exactly 3 months after joining NX Level I reached my goal weight of 190lbs (a loss of 30lbs).
On September 1, 2011 I was permanently removed from blood pressure medication by my doctor.
On October 1, 2011 I begin my swim racing program (2011-2012 season) which will continue through the summer of 2012. We shall see where that journey leads me.
As of today I’m weighing in at 186lbs and feeling stronger and fitter than I have since my professional swimming days back in the 1990’s. I am trying to figure out how to maintain my weight as I build towards the next level of my health and fitness journey. Thank you NX Level Athletics, Brad Arnett for bringing his expertise to our area and especially Nic Hansen and Matt Gifford (both of whom I get assigned to most to train with) who have spent many hours whipping this old dog back into shape where hopefully I can live to swim another good race. All your efforts are greatly appreciated!
As a competitive athlete, I never was properly educated on how to prepare and train my body for competition. Everyone has coaches, but do they really teach you how to prepare your body to be able to maximize performance through training? Most cases, no. In my experience, proper training was what I was missing. In 2006, I came to NX Level simply because I didn’t know what was wrong with my knees, I was struggling to find a training method and had no idea what to do. Over the past 5 years, NX Level has taught me more about preparing my body to compete through training than I ever could have imagined. The importance of muscle balance, hip mobility, dynamic motion, acceleration and deccelaration. They have taught me so much about myself and today, at age 40, I am in better shape than at any point in my life. If I only had a NX Level to train at when I was growing up. Brad and all of the trainers are fantastic. They honestly care about you and how you perform. They want you to be your best. It’s inspiring and I I would recommend training at NX level to anyone, regardless of their sport. I hate missing any traiing session due to my travel schedule. The crew of guys we work out with include pro athletes, college athletes and the average person. Everyone is trained as an equal and it’s the absolutely coolest thing I do every week.
I started working out at NX Level in 2007. I know that it changed by life. I grew up on a dairy farm which featured a lot of hard lifting and hard work. When I left the farm at the age 18, as you can imagine I was in pretty good shape and of course it wasn’t just the hard work, it was my age too. But, I can honestly say that I am stronger now than I was then and shaped much better, because of my training at NX Level. I have had 3 shoulder surgeries on my left shoulder and 1 on my right shoulder. Jake has helped rehabilitate and rebuild after all 3 on my left and has done an incredible job. He understands my limitations and make sure that I don’t do anything stupid to mess it up. I like the variety of activities that we do to keep in shape, look better, and feel better. And he does not consider my age when he’s pushing me and kicking my butt. I like that. In addition, my son Joey, who is on the University of Minnesota football team, says that his training at NX Level is the reason he is able to Play Big Ten Football.
I just wanted to personally thank you and your trainers for the excellent guidance and workout training you have provided my kids over the last year. I am proud to let you know that my daughter Delaney was just voted First Team All Conference as a freshman to the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference softball team as a pitcher. She had a great season breaking her High School strike out record as well as batting over .400 on the year. Her strength training at NX Level was a huge part of that. Please thank everyone on my behalf.
I am VERY impressed by NX Level!!! The training my son is receiving thus far has really exceeded our expectations.
My son was having lower back pain from last football season through basketball this winter/spring. When I took my son to NX Level, he was evaluated by one of their trainers. Through evaluation, the trainer identified that one of my son’s legs is slightly longer than the other, actually due to the tightness of the muscle on his left “cheek” and the tightness of the muscle over the front right thigh. Through stretching exercises, my son learned how to properly stretch these muscles to lengthen the 1 leg. In the end, his lower back pain is gone since!
The trainers at NX Level are real role models of how one should take good care of their body and how the body can be pushed to produce more but in an intelligent way. We plan to continue at NX Level every Spring in preparation for the coming football seasons along with attending football camp(s) in the summer.
Again, I’m very pleased and it’s money well-spent.
“My daughter has been invited to her first elite developmental training camp! She qualified to this camp by virtue of her performance at the TOPs camp. She was ranked 5th in the nation for the 9 year olds. Thanks for all your help. NX level has been a part of her success.”
“Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be the athlete I am today. Without NX Level, I’d still probably be the tall, skinny girl with the awkward body who only dreamed about playing college hockey. Through all the hard workouts and early mornings, I have learned what it really takes to take it to the next level. So, thank you for being such a great influence in my life. I don’t know what I would have done without NX Level.”
NX Level has helped me immensely. Not only am I able to hit home runs, but I am able to increase the speed of my pitching, improve my strength, and run faster. “I wait all week to come here”
“Because of NX Level, I am now stronger, faster, and bigger. I was able to put on solid, healthy weight – going from 108 to 212 pounds. I truly believe you can’t get a collegiate sports scholarship without coming here.”
“NX Level helped with my size, speed, and agility. The trainers helped be more than just physically healthy, they helped me be an overall balanced, healthy person.”
“Brad’s credentials peaked my interest – muscle harmony, specific muscle training. Swimming is different from other sports. I enjoy the environment NX Level provides. The trainers know how to help you avoid injury and help individuals of all ages improve in their specific sport.”
“ Bigger, faster, stronger, and more flexible.” I learned more about efficient movement and relating it to being a better athlete.”
